Respectful leadership and followers‘ knowledge sharing: A social mindfulness lens

Knowledge sharing is essential in today’s information society – but how can leaders foster this behavior in their followers?

In a recently accepted publication, Prof. Gerpott and her colleagues Dr. Ulrike Fasbender and Dr. Anne Burmeister showed that respectful leaders exert a positive effect on employees’ knowledge sharing by increasing their employees’ social mindfulness. Social mindfulness can be separated into perspective taking (i.e., seeing which kind of knowledge the other person may need) and empathic concern (i.e., feeling with the other).
